Sticks, leaves and larger stones are pulled from the water to prevent anything big enough getting caught in a pipe later on. Now, the water enters into an important stage i.e. Primary Treatment of wastewater. Intercepting is about physically taking out solid stuff like leftover food and human waste from the water. This acts as filtration again to further purify the water. Next, the water is treated for a secondary time. Microorganisms are utilized in this stage, which is very minute creatures. After this the water is sent into a process known as sedimentation. At this stage, larger sand and gravel particles drop to the bottom of a very large tank. This enables the clean water at the surface to be taken for processing. The water is again filtered after the settling. Filtration is a process where the water passes through layers of sand followed by gravel. These layers are there to trap any further particles or dirt that could be left in the water. And last but not least; the water is sterilized to be completely safe for human consumption. It can do so by treating the water with chemicals such as chlorine or ultraviolet light. These methods go on to completely kill any remaining harmful bacteria or viruses. After it is treated and cleaned, the water runs through pipes to homes and businesses for people to use as drinking/cooking/cleaning/sewage.

Since it is this water treated from the sewage sludge, all remains to be gotten rid of are complementary solid substance and known as fecal matter or even faeces. This sludge is then separated from the water and directed to a treatment facility at the time of cleaning in waste-water-treatment plants.
