The customer's paper mill wastewater contains high concentrations of suspended solids (SS), pulp fibers, and organic pollutants generated during the paper manufacturing process. Based on the characteristics of the wastewater, our engineering team designed a customized Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) wastewater treatment system to maximize solid-liquid separation efficiency while reducing the load on downstream treatment units. This optimized industrial wastewater treatment solution helps improve the overall performance and operational stability of the wastewater treatment plant.
Compared with traditional gravity sedimentation, a Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system generates millions of fine microbubbles that attach to suspended solids, causing them to rapidly float to the water surface for mechanical removal. This process significantly improves solid-liquid separation and clarification efficiency while substantially reducing sludge volume.
For paper mill wastewater treatment, installing a DAF system before the biological treatment stage effectively stabilizes the influent water quality, improves the performance of downstream treatment processes, and enhances the overall efficiency of the industrial wastewater treatment system. Equalization Tank: Stabilizing Flow and Water Quality
The wastewater first enters the equalization tank, where both the flow rate and water quality are stabilized.
Coagulation and Flocculation Tank: Forming Dense Flocs
The wastewater is then pumped into the coagulation and flocculation tank, where coagulants and polymers are added to form larger and denser flocs.
DAF Unit: The Core Separation Process
The conditioned wastewater flows into the Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit, where dissolved air releases millions of fine microbubbles. These microbubbles attach to suspended particles, causing them to rapidly float to the water surface.
Scum Collection and Sludge Removal
The system is equipped with a mechanical skimmer that continuously removes the floating sludge into the sludge collection tank, while the clarified water is discharged to the next treatment stage, such as an MBBR, MBR, or other biological treatment process.
This process effectively reduces Suspended Solids (SS), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), and pulp fibers, providing stable influent conditions for downstream treatment and improving the overall efficiency of the wastewater treatment plant.
